Web developer WorkstationAfter researching the job of a Web developer or Webmaster, I quickly decided that this wasn't the job for me. A web developer is responsible for determining the functionality of a Web site. A Web developer figures out how a Web site will do what it needs to do and then writes the necessary programming code. Most of the programming codes aren't seen by the user of the Web site but a Web developer could also be responsible for the codes the user sees. The codes the user sees are the HTML/DHTML and the Javascript. A web developer must also maintain the website. He or she works with a team that usually consists of Web engineers, graphic artists, and a Web producer. All of these individuals must work together to keep the website running. A Web developer must have a good idea of where the site is going and what items fit where in the Web site. He or she must have a good idea of how HTML works and how it interacts with major browsers.
A Webmaster is also responsible for programming. He or she must be familiar with common programming and scripting language. Another job requirement is new page and application development. One must not simply come up with an idea for the Web page but must make sure it fits into the scheme of the Web site and doesn't contradict the other information on the Web site. A Webmaster must also be familiar with Photoshop and other design tools in case he or she has to help with the graphic design. A Web developer must also know how to do server maintenance in case the server has any problems. The Web developer must also serve as the Release Engineer by developing and running the scripts that move Web pages from the development server to the production server. He or she must also prevent bugs from entering the HTML.
The job of a Web Developer isn't a job that I would like to have. A Web developer must be highly trained and know how to do their job well. He must be on top of things because he can't let the Web site crash. A Web developer has many responsibilities and must be able to perform each one of these to perfection. I wouldn't like this job because I am not a perfectionist. I also wouldn't like sitting in front of a computer all day. The HTML seems like a complex code to figure out. I'd rather just stick to science than computers. I wouldn't lie having the responsibility of so many things because if one thing went wrong, it would all be blamed on me. Also, I work better as an individual not with a team. I think that having so many team members would e a distraction to me. I know that we all need computers in this day and age but I don't want to have a job that is based around them simply because computers don't interest me very much.
